We went to opening night at the REVRY-presented OUT Web Fest Visibility Awards to give you a front row seat on the pink carpet. The event took place at YouTube Space LA on May 12th and honored Tyler Oakley, Ari Fitz, and Gigi Gorgeous with awards.
OUT Web Fest is now entering their second year. The fest is centered around short-form digital content recognizing the LGBTQ+ community across 4 categories: Music, Drama, Docs/Experimental, and Comedy. The event also hosts industry and creator panels and screenings throughout it’s two-day run.
In addition to presenting awards to honorees, the opening night featured a screening of “This Is Everything,” marking the YouTube Red premiere for the Gigi Gorgeous documentary. The film is centered around a “champion diver (Gigi), destined for the Olympics, (who) announces he’s transitioning into a woman and invites his YouTube followers along for every moment.”
The Trending team caught up with Ari Fitz on the “pink carpet” before the event’s festivities began:
Ari recently launched an IndieGoGo campaign for her own upcoming documentary project, “My Mama Wears Timbs.” The doc is set to follow a pregnant tomboy preparing to take her maternity photos and has already exceeded it’s modest goal of $3,000.
Hannah Hart joined Gigi and Ari to grab some photos on the carpet before taking the stage to present one of the Visibility Awards.
Once the awards were underway, we were treated to touching acceptance speeches from Tyler Oakley, Gigi, and Ari, amazing presenters, a fantastic screening of Gigi’s documentary, and even snapped some behind the scenes photos while we were at it!
Congratulations to all OUT Web Fest award recipients, presenters, panelists, and organizers for putting together such a wonderful event supporting the LGBTQ+ creative community.
