We already knew the power that YouTubers have when it comes to promoting products, after all, they didn’t get the title of Influencer for nothing.
The actual financial revenue that they can create for products though is sometimes staggering. This was just proven after indie game developer, Ryan Clark, announced that he believes the effect of PewDiePie’s play through of his game ‘Crypt Of The Necrodancer’ ultimately paved the way for more than $100,000 in sales.
We’ve seen this type of effect happen before. Earlier this year Casey Neistat directly affected the sales of the book American Kingpin after he featured it as his first official book club read. American Kingpin jumped to the 25th best seller spot on Amazon after Casey announced it on his YouTube channel, when previously, the novel had been residing at the 1,576th spot.
That’s a HUGE jump.
With PewDiePie, it doesn’t surprise us at all that he also had a positive effect towards the sales of what he was (inadvertently) promoting.
The gaming community on YouTube is big enough as is, but when you combine that with the fact that PewDiePie has over 57 million subscribers, it’s almost impossible for any game that he plays, and actually enjoys, to not then see a spike in revenue.
As it turns out, these people really are influencing product sales, whether they mean to or not.
