K-Pop superstar group BTS has been getting massive worldwide recognition this year.
They took home the Billboard Music Award for “Top Social Artist”, unexpectedly beating out Justin Bieber in the process. The seven-member boy band will even be performing at the 2017 American Music Awards this Sunday, November 19th. They are the first Korean boy band to take the stage for the award show.
Now, one of it’s members has decided it’s time to undergo a change. 23-year-old Rap Monster (real name Kim Nam-joon), is simplifying things and has reduced his name to “RM”. He’s held the stage name Rap Monster for the past five years.
In a statement he released, RM said “The name ‘BTS’s Rap Monster’ was a bit long, and I’ve become keenly aware of the fact that it’s become different from [what I want] to put at the front of the music I’ve made for the past five years, and the music I want to share in the future. At some point, I started introducing myself as Rapmon or RM, rather than the full name Rap Monster. So I’d like to change the name I use for promotions to ‘RM,’ which I think is more in accordance with the music I’m aiming for and also has a wider spectrum.”
He’s already released some music under the name ‘RM’, so we’re sure his transition to using the new name will go smoothly.
