For tabletop gamers it’s the happiest time of the year. It’s the 50th annual Gen Con in Indianapolis, and gamers, comic fans, and nerds of all stripes have been making the pilgrimage from across the country and beyond.
It’s weird to think that 50 years ago, the creator of Dungeons & Dragons, Gary Gygax, held the first ‘Geneva Convention’ at a tiny conference hall in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin for 96 wargamers. Back then he probably couldn’t have conceived of how huge his very niche hobby would become.
Case in point: the huge positive reception for the cast and crew of Critical Role, who streamed the latest episode of their blockbuster D&D stream live from the convention, as has become an annual tradition. Also becoming a tradition are co-star Sam Riegel’s very special outfits he dons for such special occasions. There’s really no words that will do this particular one justice, though.
