What the glitch? Instagram users and influencers were in a straight up frenzy on Wednesday when they noticed that their followers list had taken quite the hit and had basically been wiped out…again.
The random, drastic drop in followers caused some to wonder if Instagram was culling inactive and fake accounts, as part of its fight against spam. But, that doesn’t seem to be the case. It’s just a bug.
In response to all the mayhem, Instagram’s official Instagram account attempted to ease the concerns of those who thought they had lost their validation overnight.
“We’re aware of an issue that is causing a change in account follower numbers for some people right now,” they wrote earlier in the day. “We’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible.”
Later in the afternoon, they hit users with an unsatisfying update.
“We’re expecting to have this issue resolved by 9 a.m. PST tomorrow. We understand this is frustrating, and our team is hard at work to get things back to normal,” they posted on the platform.
Of course, all of this didn’t go down without social media’s biggest influencers chiming in. Young Ezee was just one of them, posting a funny clip on Instagram expressing her hilarious frustration with her 50,000 followers drop.
But, it looks like Instagram is already figuring the problem out. By the end of the night Wednesday, it looked as if Ezee’s followers were back up to the pre-glitch number of 1.5 million.
This latest Instagram bug comes only a few hours after a Twitter bug messed with the Like count on tweets, causing users to wonder if accounts were being suspended en masse or if they were just very bad at tweeting.
