A 19-year-old Toronto woman turned herself in to authorities Wednesday after video showing her throwing a chair off a high-rise balcony went viral on social media, sparking instant outrage online.
Marcella Zoia is accused of throwing a chair from the 45th floor of an apartment building in Toronto in a viral video that circulated on Facebook.
The clip was filmed on February 9 at around 10 a.m., by February 11 it had spread across social media.
According to police in the city, Zoia handed herself into authorities on the morning of February 13. She has been charged with mischief endangering life, mischief damaging property under $5,000 and common nuisance, according to a statement from Toronto police.
Zoia had been released into the custody of her mother on a $2,000 bail. She is not allowed to have any contact with the other four people who were involved in the filming of the chair throwing video.
In court, Zoia’s lawyer said his client “wishes this never happened, that she’s been under intense scrutiny and that she’s extremely embarrassed and will never do this again.”
The beauty made her first appearance in court on February 13.
Since the incident, the Instagram model has taken down all of her social media accounts.
