YouTube is premiering a documentary on the Latin star, Ozuna, marking the first documentary ever with an artist who records in Spanish.
The #1 artist on YouTube’s Global Artist chart for the second week in a row is Puerto Rican musician, Ozuna. As a plus, he also ranks in more than 4.9 billion YT views in this year alone. To celebrate and also add to Ozuna’s success as a musician on a platform that usually doesn’t pay too much attention to established musicians, YouTube is premiering an 8-minute documentary titled Música Sin Fronteras (Music Without Borders) on Ozuna’s YT channel, carrying more than 8 million subscribers.
The documentary traces Ozuna’s humble beginnings, all the way to his two sold-out shows in Puerto Rico, days before Hurricane Maria hit the island.
“I dedicate this to Puerto Rico…Puerto Rico gets up. Puerto Rico remains standing.” The doc also accompanies a social call to promote Ozuna’s new music video “Síguelo Bailando” which will only officially premiere once 20,000 fans post with the hashtag #siguelobailando.
YouTube’s documentary shows how “borderless” the platform has become, creating a platform that allows Latin acts who don’t yet have a global capacity to get their names out into the public. At the start of 2016, five Latin videos reached the 1 billion mark. Today, 20 videos have hit that milestone.
45 of the top 100 most viewed music videos on YT this year feature Latin artists.
The Latin music scene is one that is always thriving and updating itself. It’s easy to see why Ozuna is so popular. His music speaks for itself.
So don’t hold your breath for another Justin Bieber “Despacito” remix. We don’t think it’ll be necessary. Also, the ladies love him. Can you blame them?
