This past weekend, Tyler the Creator‘s album Scum Fuck Flower Boy was leaked online and fans took notice of one recurring low-key theme: Tyler seems to be acknowledging his sexuality and coming out of the closet.
On the track I Ain’t Got Time, Tyler raps “Next line will have them like ‘woah’ / I been kissing white boys since 2004.” Many fans are interpreting his line literally. He has another song on the same album titled Garden Shed, which has been taken as a form of “in the closet” and he raps “All my friends was lost / They couldn’t read the signs / I didn’t want to talk / I tell ’em my location and they ain’t want to walk,” lines that could infer as a lack of understanding from his friends and family. The song also contains the line “Garden shed for the garcons” and garcons translates to “boys” in French. Possibly another hint?
Tyler has made jokes or references to being gay in the past, even tweeting out “I tried to come out of the damn closet like four days ago” after Frank Ocean, Odd Future member and collaborator, came out in 2012.
I TRIED TO COME OUT THE DAMN CLOSET LIKE FOUR DAYS AGO AND NO ONE CARED HAHAHHAHAHA
